... have stopped working, no fuses blown, is there an inline fuse? and where is it? its an 1981 if this makes any difference.

Were they working before hand stupid question i know but when i got my van mine were'nt working checked everything and ended up taking the wiper arm off and spraying wd40 on the spines and taking the ashtray out on the dash and spraying the wiper mechanism heh presto working wipers

Fuse, switch on the stalk, relay and down to the motor; bell them all out using a mutimeter or a cheap doorbell buzer and see when you stop getting voltage.
From the description of the incident it sounds like you blew something but it could just be incidental, you may have knocked something loose during your install.
