Automatic transmission replacement

Post by dirtyroger »

Hi ya'll,

I've just got myself an auto 1.9 panel van, i've been slightly worried about the auto box as when i put it into drive from park it lurches forward slightly and i'm aware that this could be the start of bad things to happen. I've read on an ealier thread that the auto box is the same as an Audi 80's. can anyone confirm this and if so has anyone done so. It seems like the better option of replacing it that getting it fixed.

thanks

Check for correct idle rpm first, could be a bit high and would cause this.

hi

they use the box in some early passats , audis and porches , although you need to split the box from the differential part.
also differnt years use different boxes, ie not all the audis use the box!

easy to swap/change if youe mechanically minded!

Cool thanks, i'll check that (with a strobe i guess?) but i think it might be something different as sometimes when i start the motor if i dont give it enough revs in the first 30 secs. the motor will cut out. I asume this would be because the idle is too low??

thanks

also i've checked the oil, it doesn't seem to smell burnt nor is it black and can't find any bits in it. Haven't checked the auto oil filter yet though!!
