1.6 Diesel Glowplugs - T25
I'm looking at my engine that needs new glowplugs... 2 of them are obstructed by the fuel pump.
Is it possible to get them out without removing the pump??

The job is capable of being done WITHOUT removing anything, although it is a fiddly job and will take you 2 or 3 hours (still quicker than removing and re-timing the fuel pump etc)
Try and get an assortment of 12mm spanners, ring and open end, and also a ratchet-head ring spanner is useful. Did mine a couple of months back, and it can be done.
Do they all need changing?

Keep it real.

TOP TIP:
Remove the injector pipes before starting - a quick easy job that makes life a lot easier.
When reinserting the glow plugs, attach the two glow plugs (that go under the injector pump) to the bus bar loosely (before you insert them into the engine). This makes it easy to drop in the plugs under the pump and saves you fiddling around trying the connect the nuts onto the bus bar.
Got to do mine tomorrow....

Glow plugs are in and it still doesn't start. Now that it isn't the glowplugs I checked the bus bar and there is no current....
What's the name or part number of the relay the bus bar connects to??
The "Glow plug relay" (sorry no part number) is inside the little box on the front left (gearbox end) of the engine bay. There is also a fuse that the plugs run through so it might be worth checking the fuse and the cleanness of the relay contacts before binning the relay. Does the amber preheat LED work on the dashbord? Can you hear the relay clicking when the ignition is turned on? (should click when the ignition is turned on and afew seconds after the LED goes out (the LED shows when the engine is ready to start, not that the heaterplugs have turned off!)).
Looking at the wireing diagram, a blown fuse will also take out the aux water pump on turbo engines so you'll want to get that fixed (could also be another cause of a blown fuse if faulty).
