fuel additives

evening all!

Ive just brough a bottle of STP diesel fuel additive, directions are easy, fill tank in tip bottle in!!!
before I do this are they any good and will my engine become a addict!!

You may become addicted to it... It improves performance so you want to keep putting more in!
Its good stuff though, would recommend it periodically.

i regularly use stuff called Dipetane. Its a 1 litre bottle that will treat 100 litres of fuel. Its got markings on the side of the bottle to show you how much to put into the tank. Great stuff. Theres a notable increase in power and a huge increase in fuel economy. It cleans the inside of your engine by causing it to burn off carbon deposits.

if additives work, why arent large haulage companies and train providers using it them? it does however do one certain thing!!! make the producers of it VERY rich indeed

if you want performance porsche make some decent priced cars, but you cant "camp" in one

One thing taxi drivers swear by (and you know ...taxi drivers are never wrong

) is to add a bit of two-stroke oil to the tank. Like 200-250 ml to a 60 l tank, so not much.

I'm currently on my second tank full ..the jury is still out on fuel consumption. Seems to have improved from 8.8l/100km to 8.3l/100 km ...but it's hard to tell on a syncro as brimming it is tedious and never quite certain (it foams like mad on last 10 liters), so I'll need to do a few more tankfulls to be sure.

One very positive thing I have noticed is that the engine runs a lot smoother, most of the "typical" VW diesel harshness has disappeared, even on idle.

It runs very well also, but I don't think power is up (significantly) ...it just sounds "healthier" ...so far no negative side effects.

If the 0.5 liter consumption improvement is true it just about makes financial sense, but I'm very enamoured with the smooth running.

I guess puttin oil in yer diesel may increase the life of pump & injectors because it would may the fuel more oily--a complaint with modern low sulphur diesel is its less 'oily' so it dont lubricate so well shortening the pump life-which would be why the taxi drivers do it--dunno how that would effect a modern hdi engine tho--

HDI is High pressure direct injection. TDI is turbo direct injection. CDR is Compact disc rewritable. I dont know what CRD is. I think Ill stick with my mechanical injection pump as well, thank you very much.

baby oil is another favourite ,add about the same 1/4 lite to 60 litres of fuel...

where will it end? a mate of mine adds a creme egg and a packet of scampi fries to every other fill up

why would you want to put anything other than "fuel" in the "fuel" tank?...............................its a bit like beauty cream, it does absolutely NOTHING but people fork out ££££££££ everyday on the sh1 t. fooools

V-Power, Ultima or that with the "techron" engine cleaner

And you havent done anything else??? but just added 2 smoke to the tanks?
Not new tyres? service? air temperature is lower? Different fuel, different pump?
Lots more variables..

Lubing the pump I can get.. but 2 stroke isnt particularl flamable so cant see how it would improve the mpg.. unless its reducing friction... (which is what its supposed to do) May be other factors in the 2st, like its starting to clean the engine a bit.. as it has to keep the engine clean on a bike..
