Ebay item 2.5 engine?

Post by kefty »

Just spotted this Vanagn on Ebay and wondered about the 2.5 engine. Its an american import. Any of you guys know about these? Are they standard engines from VW?

1982?? cant be... unless it was a diesel.. but reg on a E plate.. whats that? 1987....... all a bit odd that... DVLA wont give a later plate than date of manufacture... (ie you cant have a newer reg on an old vehicle)

If it really is a 2.5 wbx, then its a GO westy engine and very good. Or its a Audi 5 pot.... or its a Subaru 2.5...... otherwise its a std 2.1

would need to have a good look at it... but time running out...

Well its not a 5cylinder.U can tell that from the photos.
Its also definetly not an 82 modle.U didnt get factory metalic paint in 82 or any of the other interiour speck this van has.
The age is probably a misprint.

The 1982 and 2500 are typo's but it is a 2.1 and originally from an eBayer in Preston renowned for selling "awesome" and "stunning" vans...nuff said.
The new "seller" has only owned it a couple of months....It was "sold" on eBay to someone on here...but that someone chose not to buy it when they got up to Preston and viewed it....nuff said!

Typos? I have asked the question and the seller assures it is 1982??

I beleive it is a 2.5 petrol water cooled 4 cylinder and I understand it is a 1982 imported from USA

Seen the chassis number and its a 1987 build date...

DVLA would NOT give it a E reg (1986/7) plate if it was a 1982... and if they didnt know what year it was it would get a Q plate which you cannot change unless you can get proof of year of manufacture...

it all sounds a bit odd

He also reckons the 2.5 engine was bought off the same guy who sold the van.. but without numbers and any identifying marks or measuring the stroke, its impossible to tell if it really is a 2.5..

Well for some reason the old thread that 1st brought this van to my attention has been deleted...why i don't know :? ...but here's part of the PM i received from the the person who decided not to buy it...

Well i didnt feel it matched the description of the add..when i rung him he said he had hunted a long time to find this van and that the respray had been very carefully supervised by himself and that the roof had not been sprayed as he intended to do it a different colour..On arrival he said he had had the van two weeks , there was very little paint on the roof , and it was well sun bleached and rusty..The paint finish was substandard and painted over dents in many panels..There were cigarette burns in the seats..It was generally a dog, and i would have been ashamed to show my friends i had bought such a poor vehicle.

So it's definately NOT a 1982 van and i'm very doubtful about it being a 2.5 either.
Well there's only 30 minutes left of the auction so let's see who's the next "lucky" owner.

That back lights photo looks like a pub car park to me, not connected to the original listing
