Paint/Body question??

Post by side-show-bob »

Hi

I am having to replace three of the wings on my T25 and as i was cutting them out found that there was a white coating between the paint and the metal. It is quite thick and at first i thought it was filler!! Is it ment to be there as it apears to be on the whole pannel?

Cheers Rob

It`s seam sealer. see the Wiki guide on bodywork and painting

The seam sealer is added into the joint after the panel is welded in, just to seal the tiny gap between the panels etc, it`s NOT supposed to cover the seam so you can`t see and join. It`s also the reason that the rust comes through the seams from the back, as the rear of the panel seam isn`t properly watertight, the water will wick through and rust between the 2 steel parts and then you have rust showing on the outside again. You MUST seal the back of any seams after replacement with some good anti-corrosion stuff, and underseal the lot.

If you want to blend out all the panel lines, use bodyfiller, but It will look like s**t when it`s done :?

Hi SSB

Have a look at http://www.ahschofield.co.uk/vanPics80- ... /BRP2.html

IMHO The easiest fix is to buy the full panel with a fake seam, its not clear from pic but the panel has been manufactured to include a seam line(31).

The panel (30) is a good copy of the original but I found very tricky to fit.

Sorry westy.club.joker i think we are talking at cross perpoese, i dont want to fill the seams. the whole pannel is covered in this white substance and then painted. so when i weld the new pannel in itis approx 2mm lower that the pannel next to it..
