MOT Failure Advice Please-rear spring/trailing arm junction.
My '83 Devon Camper has just failed its MOT on one item:
"N/S rear lower coil spring mounting corroded and seriously weakened"
I've had a look and it looks like a disk between the spring and the trailing arm that is crumbling and lifting from the arm.
Is there a specific part that can be welded in place or do I need to find a welder with a bit of ingenuity?
Thanks in advance
Paul.

Well if a new a decent arm were available locally as cheap as repairing the one I've got then ok but I'm in Birmingham and would like to sort in the 7 days I've got for my free re-test.
Anyone know of a local source of second hand bits to me?
And is it really that simple to swap them?
Paul.

Is it really so simple

I am also a bit confused as to the way the spring mounts to the arm and what the reason for my fail is - I doubt my testing centre has much knowledge of these vans.
From another post there is a reasonable pic of the bit that is crumbling - see "Bad rust around wheel arch" (sorry don't know how to put pic here!) - it is the disc-like bit at the bottom of the spring.
Is it significant?

On further investigation this morning it looks to me that the offending part might just be the plate that sits between the spring and the trailing arm (shown as lower packing in Haynes).
If I take it apart and put a new one in place maybe that will satisfy - is this an easily found part?
Paul.
