CAN I CARRY GENNY ON THE ROOF????

Post by komet »

I have an autohomes komet with the ladder on the back door and storage thingy bit on top, There are rails attached to the roof and i wondered if the genny will be ok tied to these, its only a 650w £50 one???? or is it lightly to fall off when cornering  ?????

Is it worth the risk, just dont want to carry it in the van stinking of petrol

so long as its tied down good and tight , shouldn't go anywhere

either there or the bike rack (that is of course if you have one)
or drain the petrol and carry that in a plastic petrol can and carry both in the van

We went to cornwall last year and had a barbeque, chairs, awning and a surfboard all in some way attached to the roof storage thing of our Autohomes Karisma.

Buy a stretchy cargo net off ebay and tie it all down as well.

No problem.

What do the rails fasten into? If it`s just screwed into the fibreglass I would say you are asking for trouble :( Lot of inertia with that weight that high up when cornering. I would say buy a waterproof nylon bag and put it in that, tied round the top to seal it, and stick it in the back of the van with a strap round it, so it doesn`t hit you on the head if you have to jam all on in an emergency
Keep it real.

We carry an awning and three folding chairs on the front rack on our Autohomes Kamper. Tied down with an 8 hook bungee from JK, no probs at all.

Genny would probably prefer being on the bed rather than on the roof I reckon.
Judging by the ones I have had in the past

I think i will either carry in the van sumhow or take the trailer, Dont think id relax while driving with it on the roof, id constantly be looking in the mirror
