Will a DG Engine be O.K. - been standing for a few years..

Post by violinman »

The DG engine in my 1985 Autosleeper went kaput and I've been offered one that's done 44,000 miles from another vehicle. It's been standing in a dry garage for about 6 years but runs O.K. I've seen it running - it sounds good, no leaks or noises but I'm just wondering if there might be any problems because it's been unused for so long . It's had antifreeze in it all the time so I would imagine the head bolts are O.K.........Any advice chaps ?!

if it sounds ok, it runs ok it isnt leaking fluids, i'd say it ok........

change the oil and filter, after you have let it warm up.

I've really abused my 1.9DG over the years (driven it for months with a leaking jacket, driven it 500 miles with the rockers hanging off, driven it with not-quite-right timing) and it's still going.

If it holds oil, holds water, and runs without funny noises I'd say it was a good 'un!
