relays/ fridge & split charger.

only me! after a great deal of head scrathing i no wiser.i am trying to figure out wot switches the fridge relay as this allso feeds the split charge relay.i have 5 terminals on the fridge relay:-30=red,86=black,85=green,2x87=yellow

white=live feeds for lights & sub pump=87
yellow=permanent live=87
black=earth=86
green=fridge suply & switch live for split charge relay=85
red=?=30
it shows that 85 & 86 pulls the relay to allow flow 30 to 87 or the other way round.i cant see how this allows current to flow to the fridge.can any one help me

right then...
i can only assume that 86 - 85 activate the coil in the relay
therefore allowing passage of current FROM 30 TO 87
then it will work the same as the normal set up people have.
(for split charging)
so pop you fridge and the other stuff you want to run
(when motor on) on the 87 plugs...

thanks redstar,dont supose you can tell me where the switch live would come frome when the engine is runnig(live that pulls the relay to allow the current to pass from 30 t0 87).cheers

These are the normal pin outs for relays. 5 pin relays can have 2 x pin 87 connections OR change over (as in the diagram.

The relay is always (as far as I know) switched by the 85/86 combination so your initial list may be wrong. It is normal to have one of these connected to the charge light to ensure that the relay works when the alternator is charging although some people fit it to the coil. The coil is not recommended as it means the main battery could be trying to start the van and charge the LB and run the fridge at the same time.

just posted and forgot to say - if you intend to run the fridge and the split charge from the same relay ENSURE that both terminal 87s are electrically isolated when the relay is unpowered. If they aren't you will power the fridge from the LB at rest and flatten it very quickly. (You can get both isolated and commoned relays)
