Wild camping near surf
Our last week away before the new member of our family arrives.
Really want to go to croyde area but the campsites there are around £30 a night.
Does anyone know of somewhere where I can find some decent waves with either a cheap campsite or ideally a wild camping sPot near by.
Must be within 4 or 5 hours at t25 speed from SW London.
Thanks

Can you get to Pembrokeshire in five hours? I've seen people on here talk about a nice camp site, cheap one at bosherston. Good surf round there.

All the decent waves in Devon & Cornwall will be stuffed full of wanabee surfers until about October and finding a wild camping spot near a surf beach is pretty impossible unless you are a card carrying local
Polzeath- Will be hectic and expensive.
Padstow- You'll have a good range of surf beaches to find some space at: Harlyn (smaller waves), Constantine (reef and beach break), Treyarnon (very rippy but can be fun) and a few others in between. Lots of campsite but prices can be expensive. Parking normally £3-£5 all day.
Newquay & Watergate- Will be more hectic and expensive.
Holywell- Can have some good waves and tends to be less crowded than most places. There are campsites near Cubert & a NT car-park by the beach.
Perranporth- Big enough beach to find some waves but you will have the lifeguards trying to herd everyone between the flags. There's a campsite in the village and you can walk to beach from it.
Gwithian- Good waves but can get busy. Campsite in the village so beach is walkable, and there's a NT car-park near the Godrevy end of the bay.
If you really want to avoid paying camping site fees you'd be better off finding a quiet spot inland to sleep at and just getting up early, driving to the beach of your choice for breakfast and a pre-crowd session.

Thanks for the replies.
As I thought really. Maybe we'll have to pay the campsite fees.

You could try:
http://www.surfparadise.co.uk/?utm_sour ... B8XBCvBWgB
Seems to be owned by Parkdean - same people that run Ruda - but comes in at £26.50/night for 22 and a vehicle on July 15.
I've been hunting around too as I wanted a quick weekend surf before the schools break up, but not sure I'm going to get a chance
Sorry it's not wild camping as requested, but as you'd mentioned you were now thinking of paying the fees thought I'd mention.

There are loads of places to wild camp in Cornwall. Just avoid all the areas like the ones listed above.

Re: Wild camping near surf
there's a fair few "wild camping" areas in braunton, I know of 2 near Woolacombe and I live in Georgeham (next village on from Croyde) and there's allways a few vans "parked up" in the roads around here every weekend, I think Incledon farm (the campsite in georgeham) charge arond £14 a night
PM me for the parkups in Braunton etc as I don't really want to make them totally public

I have stayed on that campsite in Georgham before.
The pub on the main road (if you can call it that) does the best steak with blue cheese butter I have ever had.
