Wild camping Wales.-Back with pics!!

Post by ninja.turtle007 »

We are off to Wales very soon. We will basically drive across the south stopping at the Gower, across to St David's and up the west coast to Anglesy. Returning through the middle.

I have seen the recent threads which help but we want to wild camp much as possible. I have seen the spots on the map in MO but was hoping you might know of a few more.

Thanks.

Wales is that sort of place that you'll end up finding your own as you go along. :D

if youre going anywhere near dolgellau there is a good site which is as good as wild just at the bottom of cadair idris. its on the minor road on the northern side of the mountain turning by the main car park. theres a caravan club campsite there too but the field we stayed in was just a bit further up the track, think it was £3 a night and has a tap but thats it. great views and very peacfull :ok

We found no shortage of wild camping spots 2 years ago. Were told by the locals that you could overnight in CADW car parks (sort of Welsh national trust). Used a few of them and also some Forestry commisions spots.

As I'm sure you can fathom Tom, usually as long as you don't leave a mess when you stop over then you won't get any hassle. Its one of the key points of wild camping - sadly I've seen a few folks that don't have the faintest idea of how to apply this rule. Rubbish chucked out of windows (usually fast food stuff), blasting out music way too loud.

Cheers guys, that's a few to go on.

Yes, we are respectful of our surroundings and don't want to spoil it for ourselves or others. One spot where we stayed last year had been left in a mess by previous visitors. We cleaned up their rubbish as we didn't want others to think we had left rubbish everywhere.

Just done a 3 week tour of wales. There are a few places you can just park up. Didn't seem to be much police about on my travels!

Here are a few pics of our time away. Mostly wild camped but we did stay on a couple of campsites. Although one of them was no different to wild camping except it cost us a tenner for the night. The other turned out to be a music festival.

Must say Wales is absolutely beautiful, especially mid and north.

Normally I get around 25mpg but we achieved 36mpg from driving so slowly trying to take in all of the stunning views.

Pics are a mixture of wild camping spots and places we stopped for a break.

How do you end up finding all these places? Is it just luck, or do you use maps ect

Second one down= Jed :ok

Have you been to mid/north Wales? Simply stunning and fairly easy to find a place to stay. According to a local farmer, after 5pm the rangers go home so you can pretty much stay where you want. We found quite a few car parks displayed no over night parking but we had no bother. Pic 5 was a car park for about one vehicle!!
