Any good campsites on Kent coast?

Heading off to the Kent coast for a few days, but looking at campsites, they all look like holiday parks - not really our cup of tea.

Anyone recommend any good sites, or pub camping or (sshhh) wild camping spots?

Thanks DA, we'll head there tonight.

Anyone got anything for tomorrow?

It's not on the coast but is not a caravan site either. The Drum Inn, near Ashford. 20 spaces, with some electric hook up and about 20 minutes from Dover. The pub grub there is also excellent as is the ale. I used it on my way to Dover last year and it turned out to be a very pleasant experience. Thoroughly recommended.
:ok

^^ I second the Drum. It's not cheap though at £18.

Kingsdown in Deal is lovely and close walking distance to a couple of nice pubs. Campfires allowed.

Another favourite (cheap) but basic site is Upper Morgay Wood at Stubbs Cross, not far from Hastings.

Herons Park isn't bad in Lydd (apart from at the weekends when it can be noisy from the race track). Campfires allowed.

That's £18 with hook up. £15 without and the pub grub and ale is good.

We've used the Drum a couple of times, very good beer and food, I'd recommend it as a stop over

So, we Drummed it last night. Liked it and Mick was very nice. 18 quid was a little steep though when you have to pay for the showers too. But the food was good and we would recommend it.

Currently wild camping at Dungeness - between the nuclear power station and Lydd army camp. Sounds grim but we're right on the beach.

So tomorrow we'll try the site at Deal.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions.

Excellent. It's a shame they don't discount the camping at the Drum when you have a meal there but if people are paying it then why would they I guess?

I would recommend The Kings Head pub in Deal which is a short walk from the Kingsdown campsite. Really reasonably priced and decent pub grub. There are a couple of others nearby too which I haven't tried so if you do let me know please :)

I'd be really interested to hear where your wild camping spot is in Dungerness. We haven't been brave enough to try it yet but definitely would with a recommendation.

Have fun and I hope the sun shines. Enjoy your view tonight .....!!
