We stayed at Grange Farm (they do camping and isle of wight ferry deals too) on the south coast. We had a nice walk from Freshwater over the downs to the Lighthouse/former army battery.

The site was right on the beach, had donkeys and other little animals and there was a short 10 minute stroll to the pub (off main roads) in the nearby village of Brighstone (ask the reception for directions)
