Oooh, ta! We were thinking about seeing Bodiam while we're down that way.WestWey wrote:not sure about the immediate area but about twenty mins away is bodiam which has a campsite and it's own castle too...

We're trying to get to all the SE places we've been meaning to see for ages, before we move west!

I've heard that this one is quite good too :http://www.cedargables.org/
Handy for both Castles and the Rye/Hastings coasts too. Battle is nice too, as is Tenterden, which also has its own Steam railway.
Plenty to see and do down here

The other end of which is right opposite Bodiam castle...
We're back, after heading down yesterday AM for a couple of days of hammering the National Trust card. Chartwell then Quebec House (just down the road in Westerham) then to the Bodiam campsite, a wander along the river to walk round the outside of the closed castle and a pint at the pub opposite. This morning, Smallhythe Place then Sissinghurst then into Scotney Castle with just about enough time to get round before it closed... Very pleasant indeed, with a healthy morning-starting wine tasting session at the Chapel Down vineyard whilst waiting for Smallhythe Place to open...
Parked outside Bodiam castle was a very clean German-plated red T3 with a hightop I've not seen before - window in the "step" like a Westy, but not as noticable a step, more like a smooth slope up. A really tidy lowered red Atlantic poptop waved, too, then a chat with a couple at Sissinghurst who used to have a T3 camper years ago.
Oh, and the campsite was perfectly decent. I think we were the only people there, but there were a LOT of caravans parked around...

Take some old newspaper & kindling - their £3.50 bags of logs are a bargain, and they're quite happy for you to build a fire...
