Quick Q - do they insist on only staying 24 hours? Or can you stay a few nights?

We've only ever stayed for 1 night however a few years ago in the mountains behind St.Tropez there was a Scottish gin palace that had definately stayed 2 nights ... they were telling us about the mosquitoes they suffered from last night. That was a very remote place though and the owners didn't even come to see us, obviously they had nothing to sell ?



I think 'a few days' would be pushing it though ... remember there's nothing to do there, no facilities on the vast majority and certainly no playground.

I agrea with Ian 2 days would be pushing your luck

You can't go wrong for the price of one night on a campsite you could bye the FP book and stay as much as you want.

Also if you choose an area with lots of FP sites you could just move each day to the next.We stayed near Dijon last year and there was 3 in the village more or less next door to each other.

Thanks - just in the early days of planning our first trip abroad in our camper in the summer

We tend to use the F.P. as a guaranteed place to stay on the way to/from somewhere. We used 3 on the way to the South of France, toilet drop/water fill up on an Aire at Sete. 2 days on the beach there then off to Italy via a services for a shower (intended for truckers but actually free to all paying customers) and 1 night on the F.P. above St.Tropez. 3 days on a campsite in Italy, 3 days on a temporary site nr St.Tropez. A night on a F.P. in the Ardeche then an Aire near Auxerre and 3 nights on a campsite near Abbeville.

So,17 nights in France: 5 nights for £22.50 or whatever the F.P. cost that year. 2 free nights wild camping on the beach at Sete, 1 free night on an Aire, 9 on sites.
