Nottingham, what to do?

Post by thechubbsdub »

I am taking the wife to Nottingham next weekend and looking for some tips on where to eat drink etc. We are staying in a hotel in the lace market area for a couple of nights. I know a bit about the city, having lived in West Bridgford back in the early eighties, but I am guessing that things might have changed a bit since then. I have had a sniff around on tripadvisor but would appreciate any reccomendations for bars and restaurants in the city. Our idea of a good bar is where you can hear yourself speak and they serve a good pint of real ale. The places I can remember that we will visit are the old trip to jeruselum and I think the other one is called the salutation.

Nottinghams not a bad city to visit, plenty of bars/restaurants but as you have pointed out, many are for the younger generation and do tend to be a little noisey.
Pubs/bars I can think of that fit into that category:

Langtry's opposite the Royal Centre
The Bell, just off the Old Market Square
Round House (actually have a brewers yard) just up from where the Evening Post Building used to be.
The Royal Children...not that far from The Trip
Always value...Wetherspoons..also in the Old Market Square.
Yates bar..spit n sawdust........no it's not bad.

Food....nowhere outstanding but lots of choice.

Oh no it isn't. It's got that Christian bloke from Eastenders in it.

thanks for the suggestions Martin. I do remember the Bell vaguely and another pub at the other end of the square called the flying horse or something similar? is that still any good?

I did check Rock City Fullsunian but nothing on next weekend by the look of it.

Well we had a great long weekend in nottingham. Thanks for all the suggestions and thanks Ringo and H for venturing out in the cold for a few pints on Saturday night. We managed to visit a few pubs including the Trip to Jerusalem, The Bell, The Major Oak, Thurland Hall, the Keanes Head and the Lloyds number one bar for Breakfasts. The people were very friendly and chatty and we managed to escape this morning before the snow got too bad.
