Ferry booked for France again

Booked DFDS Dover/Calais outbound and Dunkirk/Dover return journey today. £108 return at peak time July/August. Brilliant price again. The outbound will I think be on the older ferry provided by LD lines, but hey it's only a short journey and the return journey will be in more comfort.

This year will be a special treat. Some close French friends who emigrated to Quebec will be arriving at the camp site in France at the same we get there. We haven't seen them for 4 years. We quibble about the ferry costs, but they have four kids and the airlines (no competition) charge full adult fares for each of them to travel - ouch. We are so lucky these days with cheap ferries and flights to Europe. When I were a lad.....

I've booked With LD Lines Portsmouth - Le Havre, out in March just before the schools Easter holidays & back just after they finish in early April. The cost was £187.00 which isn't bad for that crossing. The only viable alterative for me is the Newhaven - Dieppe crossing, the same mileage in France but a longer journey in the UK.

You are turning into a serious man of leisure with these regular holidays over there. You lucky lucky b******! I wish that Dieppe harbour (now a marina) had remained the same. I loved arriving at the quayside surrounded by fish restaurants and having my last lunch there before getting on the ferry to come home. Those were the days. I don't travel that way anymore as the ferries now arrive and depart at the wrong time of day for me and they arrive and depart from further away from the centre of the old port. C'est la vie

The £108 I paid was a standard early booking. DFDS don't normally cut their fares lower than this, unlike Norfolk line their predecessor.
We're travelling Dover-Calais on 28 July on the 10.15am ferry, returning Dunkirk-Dover on 17 August on the 10.00am. ferry.

Thank you both for your replies. I am planning to use the D - C crossing in August, however struggling selecting a camp site - looking for a good family orientated site probably in the Aquitaine region close to a beach, not too commercialised and would appreciate club 80- 90 recommendations?

You have contradictions in that request ... Good, family orientated - not too commercialised. You'll have to compromise and definately pay for the privelage.
Sorry can't comment on Aquitaine area sites.

Yes, there will need to be some give and take in the choice of camp site. Can anyone suggest any camp site guides that they have found to be useful?

have considered east side we have just booked again palau del vidre nice small clean site 5 miles from beach,we like it 3rd time there!

Hi, thank's for your suggestion, the area looks very nice. Our preference is the Atlantic coast this year, however there is always next summer!

After 28 years of camping over there, I continue to use the Michelin guide with back up supplied by an AA guide. The Michelin provides basic information (importantly when sites are open) and the good thing is that sites have to be of a reasonable standard to be included in it. The AA guide was always based upon campsite user's input, so a different perspective and often includes alternative sites to the Michelin so fills in the gaps. Having camped all over France, Spain, Purtugal and Northern Italy, I would not leave the house without the Michelin as a minimum reference. Happy hols.
