Wild Camping - the rules

Post by DevonMark »

So, what are the rules when it comes to wild camping? Are there certain places that it's totally allowed, some places where its absolutely not? And how legal is it?!

It's illegal as far as i'm aware in the UK but, depending on where you decide to stop, you may or may not be moved on. There are certain "spots" that are accepted as one nighters and some that will let you stop for a small fee (the land owner). Generally, it can be done but you need to do some homework. Try googleing "camperstar" to give you an idea. Hope this helps.
I can't think what to put here

I say just get on with it and get out there. As long as you don't leave litter, make too much noise or block access to fields/houses/roads then you are usually fine. I've stopped in a couple of cities (Bath and Stratford Upon Avon), laybys, car parks, woods, a field entrance one night, remote spots and others - Jed will add remote woodlands, tracks that only 4x4s can access, beaches etc.
