Going to Holmesly in the NewvForest, and just a tad concerned at many bad reviews! Have paid deposit but wold rather lose this than not enjoy the break!! Any body been recently, and if a bad experience another recommendations for New Forest camp sites with toilets, showers, electric and a pub close would be good!!

Cheers guys and gals!!

We've booked for three nights at end August. Very much the opposite of our ideal, just happens to suit in this instance.
I checked the reviews on uk campsites and trip advisor, as you would expect for a site this size it's a mixed bag. The reviews from the 'couples' are particularly revealing!
I'll post a report on return.
(PS you could look at the New Forest Caravan Club Centenary Site)

** UPDATE **
Well we arrived and it definately is a manic site; you pays your money and takes your chance! HOWEVER, we found a lovely spot down a cul-de-sac, parked the van on the road and awning onto the grass area. It is a little lumpy, but nothing drastic! And we literally had to drive through a herd of wild ponies doing there best Maggie Thatcher impression ( these ponies are not for turning!!) near the front gate, which made it all worth while for the boy!

So far 2 happy campers; heading to Boscombe Beach on Sunday for the day if any ony fancies a pot of tea!

Laterz!

Glad that you have found a good spot :D
We love the New Forest but it does get very busy, our favourite site is Denny Wood. You dont need to book and its never full. Sadly there are no showers toilets or hook up, but its quiet and a really good place to chill. Last time we where there we found about 12 Stags in a paddock all settling down for night, it was amazing.
Have a great time :D :D

We were at Holmesley last year late Sept and as you say you pays your money and pick your pitch :) It is an old airfield and once the site closes (end oct) they open the gates and let the horses roam in for the winter, so I don't think much attention is made to the grounds at all. We found the showers etc were always clean and the staff pretty good and laid back......no jobsworth hats on show :) Best to take the site for what it is and enjoy the area lots of things to do and see :ok

We have just booked. Has it improved?
It's going to be our first ( and long ) weekend in the camper.
I want hook up to test everything as well as comfort. It seems the only New Forest site with hook up.
We'll move on after the first night if its spoiling the trip.
Any recommendations in the area?
:ok

Find yourself a spot and enjoy your holiday - the site was great for us! And I nearly cancelled literally on the way down if there'd been space elsewhere - would have been a great shame!!

Make sure you visit Boscombe Beach (recommendation from some genius on the site ) get there early and enjoy the sea!

We had great weather

The locals were friendly

We had tons of fun - if you have half as much you'll love it!!

Thanks for that. Hope we get the sunshine.
I'll relax a bit now. At least the accommodation shouldn't disappoint. :ok :rofl
Do they insist on the balance on arrival? Or can you settle up when you leave?

We got back yesterday, having stayed 3 nights. We couldn't really fault the site.
It was busy but not noisy. I was able pick a pitch which didn't require chocking the bus. The shower blocks were fine. Clean and everything worked ( except one type of hand dryer. - I think they had put new ones in and left the old ones). The staff were friendly and helpful.
It helped being a dry and sunny weekend - no potential rain water issues. As its on a former WWII airfield I assume they thought of that. It's a lovely and convenient location. You wouldn't think it was an old sirfield.
Yes I'd go back.
