Lowering Springs

Post by Gandalf »

Hi,

I have an 89 Westy Cali pop top and would like to lower it a little. I understand that some vans (Caravelle's? pluase feel fee to correct  ) had -30mm springs fitted as standard. If I was to source said springs would I need to change the shocks as well?

That's right mate lowered 30mm as standard so bear it in mind when you want to lower it 60mm because effectively you will be doing it 30 mm

not sure about the shocks but brickwerks do the avo kit that's very good I'm led to believe
You can say alot of of things with "ar"

not really but bear in mind the shocks may well be 20+ years old so it would improve things massively with a fresh set on of good quality ones.

Cheers chaps. So did all Caravelle's have - 30 as standard? Or was it just a certain type of Caravelle?

seem to think it was the later ones. like the ones that came fitted with sqaure lights big bumpers, from around 88. Not 100% but the earlier ones seem to sit alittle higher. Also bluestars/whitestars came with -30mm springs fitted. if budget can stretch I can recomend avo springs -50mm and bilstein b4 shocks. nice mix of low but keeps really good ride and handling .

Mine's an '86 Caravelle, definitely no lowering there, you could get your head between the wheel arch and the top of the wheel. Not a good idea though.

The "All caravelles had factory lowering" is a falicy.
It was an option not standard fitment.
Not all Caravelles had -30mm springs.

Thanks all esp Mr B with the definitive.

Looks like I'm gonna have to save my pennies! Got to decide if its -30 or - 50 first. I'm leaning towards - 30 as I like to get out camping quite a bit and fields can be a bit up and down so if I go too low I'll probably rip off the LPG tank or something!

Yep I've seen them but don't want to go -60 and well I'm thinking its too good to be true which in general means it is and I'll end up with problems. I'll prob go to BW TBH but thanks all the same.
