Fuel breather tanks and pipes??

Anyone done away with all those fuel breather pipes and tanks under front wheel arches, surely there is a tidier solution than that.....????? :(

why would you want to change something that vw spent years developing, and got right...
5286. live life to the full, as it is to short not too.

Well i think they should have thought about it for a bit longer, its such a messy setup...
Anyone put a different fuel tank in there van??

if i were you.i would find out why they are there in the first place.before removing them.

yeah well that was idea, but it seems like no one has any info on them or why it is such an over enginered system in appearence?. I can fully understand the vacum effect from removing fuel from a sealed tank but they are normally just vented? Those of you with subaru conversions must have different tanks and so removed them as a result..???

jeez, if vw could have removed them and saved a few marks on each bus dont you think they would have?

they are present for safety. i really wouldnt remove em.

Now how comes i never found those posts on my searches, thanks rob.
Interesting info, the u shaped tank would explain why they were needed for that particular tank and why so many other vehicles dont require them. There purpose on this particular vehicle was what i really wanted to know, like a 5 year old child that constantly asks why?? :D
Now i know why they are there, i can find a simpler solution like losing the bottles/tanks and teeing the breather pipes to a vented fuel filler neck being as that needs replacing anyways as i have already cut the arch off to replace the rotten panel....
