Engine rebuild

Post by cygnak »

Just thought i would share a few before and after pictures of our engine rebuild.

We got our Van this year and have been busy spending and enjoying the experience.

Jobs done so far:
Replace clutch master cylinder
New Front Brake pads
New Fuel tank and pipes
Waxoiled
Temporary tidy up of rust on front panel.

Got to the end of summer, engine was rough and compression test showed that cylinders 3 and 4 were quite low so decided to rebuild the engine.

Stipped engine down and replaced:
Bearings
Barrels and Pistons
Push rod tubes
plugs and plug leads
Coil
Starter motor
Gaskets and seals
Clutch kit

Re-ground valves
Repaired and painted tinware
Sanded down, treated and resprayed engine compartment
Painted engine and bits red

Back together, looking and sounding a lot better.

Just need to get a decent set of carbs to finish it off

Next job - weld new sill panel. Just bought a mig, only done a bit of arc a long time ago so could be interesting. Needs to be done before the refurbed interior can be put back:

A long way to go but making progress slowly.

Not as bad as it was before the re-build. Still limited, like it is starved at the top end of the revs, but then as its still the stock engine I was never expecting miracles.
I'm sure i will get more out of it with a decent pair though, when finances permit.
