Removing head rests

Removing head rests

I have just sourced a new cloth upholstered middle row of seats for my T3. My vinyl seats were cracking quite badly so it was either re-trim or find something else. The new seats are much better but do not have headrests fitted, but feeling under the cloth I can feel where they are meant to go.

My old seats do have headrests. My question is, has anyone had any experience removing the black headrest inserts that go into the top of the seat? Just don't want to break anything whilst removing.
