Put life back into tired exterior plastic

Hi all spent the day getting rid of the dull and faded radgrill and mirrors, total spent £12

Glad to be helpin you out there buddy, the grills took about an hour each to prep and degrease then 4 coats of plastikote had em lookin like new then the mirrors took about 30 mins to mask / prep and again a good few coats of plastikote then left it all in the sun for 5 hours before refitting it .

Plastics look great. How did you prep and degrease them? Been planning on doing mine. Front grille has a crack so might just buy one of them, but the rest still needs doing.

you'll need some rubber gloves to A protect your hands and B to stop you putting greasy fingerprints on all your hard work.

I took it all off of the van and layed it on my work bench then with some very fine sandpaper i lightly ruffed up the grill just enough to take the shine off of the plastic and give the paint summat to adhere to, when i was happy with the front i turned it over and got to all the places that i couldnt reach from the front, once i was happy that i had a good keying surface i degrease it all front and rear with some white spirit and clean lint free cloth just soaking a little area of the cloth and gently wiping over the whole area.

I then layed the first grill face down and sprayed it from the rear to get into all the places that i may have trouble getting from the front i gave it 3 light coats leaving about 5 / 10 mins between coats ( remember know ones gonna see the rear so it don't all have to be done ). With the paint still a little tacky i carfully turned over the grill and painted the front giving it 5 light coats again leaving 5 to 10 mins or so between coats.

Lower grill was done exactly the same as were the mirrors altho i did hang the mirrors from the garage ceiling to get full coverage just remember to mask the glass off fully sand the shine off the plastic and degrease

Leave in the sun to dry as long as you possibly can then overnight somewhere dry and warm then refit the next day

Always paint quickly from 8 to 12 inches away building up light coats so you don't get any runs in all ya hard work.
