V.W. Caddy engine replacement for 2.1 V.W.
Is it possible to replace a V.W. 2.1 watercooled engine, with a V.W. Caddy turbodiesel one. If so, would I get better m.p.g. than I do now from the 2.1 petrol?

any thing is better than a 2.1 for economy to be honest. if the current engine is o.k why not gas it. if changing to diesel you will need all the diesel spec parts like sump, mounting bars etc. Much easier to LPg imo.

The price of L.P.G. here in Ireland, though cheaper than petrol , is way above the price charged in the European mainland or the U.K.
Also I wonder if theres a fire/explosion danger in driving around with a big gas tank in the van.

No more of a fire explosion risk than driving around with a tank of petrol.
O.k then yes a 1.9 diesel will fit. you need all the diesel spec parts, sump, bell housing, engine bars , etc, then what g/box do you have . may need changing becuase of different gearing.
On the other hand, if you want ecomony, better off selling t3 and just buy a T4.

thats a bit steep , most folks that I know have an lpg tank in there yards for domestic use and have an adaptor fitted to fill there motors. works out cheaper I do think

Instead of going diesel why not fit a VW 2ltr 8 valve petrol 2e engine then gas it.
