1.9 petrol to 1.7 deisel swap

Post by gypo »

Ive got the chance of buying a doner van to swap my 1.9 petrol to a 1.7 straight deisel. I can buy the van at the right money so would it be worth me doing the swap? Im getting approx 24mpg at the moment what would the deisel do to the gallon and would there be less power?
cheers

It depends on which 1.9 engine you have got at the moment, according to Wikipedia the DF develops 59bhp, the EY 55bhp, the DG 76bhp, the DH 83bhp and the GW 89bhp . The 1.7 diesel develops 54bhp.

Thanks for the replies, Bassically my mate has bought a doner diesel where all the parts are available to me, What im now thinking is that i might be better off looking round for a turbo golf engine and having all the bits off him to go with it?
Cheers
