did the glow plug light go out after 7 seconds when connected ?

No - I'll go and time it now and let you know

if you have 12v to the bus bar then it should be ok and hopefully your light on the dash will go out after 7(ish) seconds now.
ive never felt the outer part of a glow plug to see if you can feel the heat..i thought it was just the very ends that got hot...is the engine still running rough and hard to start ?

you think you have problems...i told everyone yesterday i would get the stuff and make a box kite and we would go and fly it at clumber park today.....ive not even started it yet .or got the slightest clue how to make it

Hiya again Wellie. I see your 7 seconds and raise you to...... 51 seconds!! yep, with the blue/white wires connected it's 51 seconds, and with them undone it's 51 seconds. So clearly, that blue/white wire is connected to something else further along the line.

I haven't tried to start her today Wellie, I'm waiting for the new heat shields to arrive to fit under the injectors, which I'll then remove and clean. I've ordered them from Brickwerks, and they should be with me on Wednesday I hope.

Don't get me started on kites - apparently I will be showing my kids how to fly a stunt kite the next time we go away in the van!! Tickets will go like hot cakes, I swear.....

right..get some wire and connect the blue/white wire from the loom to the '-' on thebattery and see if it puts the light on or not

my kids are 20 years old and older...i think i will be laughed at loads when it collapses or the string snaps and it dissapeares into the clouds ..thats if i ever get it off the ground

It doesn't put the light on. I'm guessing that means the wire is broken somewhere further along inside the loom?

well... if the wire is not connected then it will take your 51 seconds to go out..if its connected to earth then it wont come on at all...so....if its connected through a sensor..which is really a variable resistor then it will /should come on for a set amount of time(which should be around 7 secs)..so...your circuit from where you took the wire to the '-' on the battery is working fine..you just need to find the right connection on that multiplug on the temp sender and connect it to ...its got to be one of them,you already know the blue and white wire from the sender isnt working...could be the sender be faulty?

ermmm..you did turn the ignition on to see if it lit the light up ..didnt you..

I'm going to try and connect the blue/white wire from the temp sender directly to the blue/white wire coming out of the glow-plug relay, and see what happens. Pray for me

Cut the blue/white wire from the loom to the relay and spliced the relay end onto the blue/white wire from the temp sensor - glow-plugs are still on for 51 seconds lolol

So, I suspect either (a) the temp sensor is broke, (b) the connector is somehow broke, or (c) I'm connecting up completely the wrong wores somewhere.

I've got a Haynes for the Seat Ibiza (from where my 1Y came) and I cannot for the life of me find that temp sensor connector, with those coloured wires coming out of it, anywhere on the wiring diagrams. I'm working tonight and need some kip, so I'm going to call it quite for the day now, and come back to it tomorrow with a fresh set of eyes... Thanks for your help today though Wellie
