Yo. I need help! I've got (almost - about to buy...) an '89 transporter with a 1.7 ky engine that is missing a chunk from one of the injector ports. While tightening the #4 injector during a compression test, part of the head broke off. First off...is welding even an option here? It's a pretty small piece (maybe 5cm square) and includes about one half the circumference of the threads. It seems like this spot is subject to particularly heavy torqueage and pressure and a weld, long-term doesn't feel like it would be reliable. Anyone have first hand experience?
Also, are the 1.6 cs/jx heads interchangeable with the 1.7 ky? I am in Santiago, Chile and no one has heard of the 1.7 - it was only available as an import here. Can anyone recommend places to look for new/rebuilt heads? I have spent the day roaming the web and I haven't found any replacements.
Any thoughts/advice would be much appreciated!!
