Audi V6 anyone?

Post by Fin »

Has anyone tried fitting the Audi V6 from an Audi 80?

I had the 2.6 in my old coupe and thought it sounded lovely and was very smooth
Wasn't a huge unit either... Maybe a tad heavy?

Which bell housing would fit and is there anything else I should consider about this choice before destroying an Audi on my driveway.

It's going in a single cab by the way so I have a little more room upwards as I don't have the close fitting engine cover like the Vans do

South African bellhousing (rare and expensive!), South African cradle, captive nuts in the chassis, 228mm clutch and custom exhaust.

* all SA parts are hard to source and expensive, but it makes for a very solid conversion if done right.

Or you can make your own adapter plate and cradle.

Would anyone happen to know where I can find the part numbers for these bits?
Is there a South African version of VAG CAT?

I'm in the fortunate position that my Dad lives in South Africa for 6 months of the year
and I'm sure he'd be able to ship the parts with wine that they sell to the UK
Or bring them back next summer

Think I could easily make an exaust, or two into one affair - was thinking of a very un subtle mad max affair... would sound amazing

Have a look at the kit Winkler sell, its mainly 5 cylinder but many of the mountings etc are usable on the V6.

And if you have contacts in SA you may want to try Syncro Hospital.

Let me know if you are importing. I might be interested in some SA bits which might help bring the postal costs down

Aquire a full copy of ETKA, which will list all VW markets including "T3 ZA" - Ask Aidan very nicely...
I'd definitely be up for getting SA parts direct for my 2.6 so count me in! :ok

Been a while since I have posted on here. I think the V6 2.6 or 2.8 is the conversion to do as I wanted to keep it VAG.

Have a looky at Brickyard posts here, an interesting read for those wanting more power. Lots of answers to question you may not have thought about yet.

Lead me not to temptation. I can find it on my own.
