1.9 Peugeot motor

Post by andymacdonald30 »

Hi there
First post on this forum
I have a T25 caravelle that was a 1.6 td but now has a 1.9 D Peugeot engine

The pug lump gives approx 74 bhp so it is about the same as the 1.6 td

It was very easy to swap with the correct bits on hand

Home made engine mounts
Home made gearbox adapter plate

Professional services to make the spigot adaptor from a pug input shaft to a VW clutch plate

Other than that no changes that were too difficult to do

Drill out the pug temp sender unit and tap in a vw one
Change the glow plug relay
Change some radiator hose configurations
And that about it

Oh I nearly forgot
With the pug lump it will do 75 mph max
And return approx 42 mpg at 60/65 mph

I am going to put a 1.9 pug tdi lump in it as it has an extra 24 bhp
And make the top speed about 85 mph but will make 70 mph much more comfortable

Andy

Hi

Would just like to comment on that conversion as I now have the van....

1, clutch slave cylinder failed, due to bodged push rod and bracket

2, Engine mount bolts sheared due to incorrect bolts being used and only 2 of them as others were half drilled out and then left as someone got bored and couldn't be bothered to finish the job

3, Adapter plate broke due it being 2mm steel, starter motor bracket broke as well

4, and now the gearbox is screwed!!

so yep all in all a good conversion!!!

Thanks

get over the vwkd mate and speak to 'famous phil' for a proffessional quality adaptor plate. Got one in my bay and had no probs with it connecting a T25 box to a pug 1.9 td in 4 years use.

This is the first time I have been on this forum for quite a long time
I am devastated by the comments posted about the van I sold

Firstly I would like to say sorry to the nice people who bought the van

I had no problems with the gearbox when I was running it

Secondly the conversion was done prior to my getting the van
But I do put me hands up to the engine mounting bolts
I was getting round to it but circumstances got in the way
Namely a divorce and the motor had to go ASAP
The quoted price as I remember was not reached by a long way??????
And you had a drive of the vehicle before you handed over the hard earned cash
I also have you sig on the bill of sale stating that you accepted the vehicle as sold as seen

So in the long run of things

I am sorry that you had a major problem with the van but it was beyond my control

May be it is far too late for the apology but it is given anyway
