The salvage network is a very closed game. You're best off finding a nice big scrapyard, or one that specialises in VWs and asking them to call you when they get something suitable in..... but that's a VERY long shot, you'll have to become very good mates with a breaker before they'll call you.

Because VW is a premium brand, with a loyal following you'll find that the engines attract seriously premium money.

What are you looking for, as regards engine?

You'll mostly be wanting to look in Seat Ibizas and Toledos and Skodas - people don't always spot that the engines are indentical to VW ones.... hence cheaper prices.

You are aware that if you're installing a TDI to replace your NA diesel that you're going to need to install ALL of the electronics from a SINGLE donor car (security issues) and fabricate at least one engine mount, aren't you?

An alternative is to buy a custom mechanical injection pump from Bernd Jaeger or Central VW-Audi and install it with high-flow injectors.....

What stage are you at on all of this?

if i remember rightly,a reliable source quoted over a grand for the proper injectors.there was also a surcharge.
whether you go mechanical or retain the electronics, what do you plan to do about the gearing?its the only problem preventing me from fitting a tdi.

Fit a petrol gearbox if you want higher gearing - just swap the bellhousing and input shaft over - job's a good 'un.

The injectors are £98.50 each plus vat plus £84.00 surecharge each times
4. A grand total of £798.95 plus pump wich at last purchase was £890.00.
The gear ratio problem will either need a combination of a petrol box and bigger rolling cercumference tyres(wheel) or custom gearbox.Changing to petrol box alone is not sufficent.
Hope this gives a small insite into the world of TDI.

IMO,
I wouldn't fit another TDi to a vehicle without fitting the related gearbox or ratios matching the engine and/or the application you are plaing on using the vehicle in.

In a Type 25, this isn't possible without rebuilding the gearbox or using very oversized tyres if you want to criuse at 70mph@2,000rpm.

I'd stick to petrols and LPG it.

Re-salvage cars, you can find smashed up cars on ebay from time to time and also in the back of Auto trader. it is also possible to buy lightly damaged vehicles from auctions and you don't need to be a dealer.

I was aware that just fitting petrol box wont raise gearing enough, out of curiosity how tall would you need to go with tyres if using 4 speed petrol box having 0.85 4th gear and 4.83 diff?
would they fit in the arches?
