I just phoned Gasure but they were closed. AS I'm really impatient I wonder if you guys could answer a few of my questions please?

I have a 1.9 dh which is fuel injected does this mean I can have a multi point injection system or do I have to have the open loop system.

I have heard that with the open loop system you loose 20% power? Also I have been told the engine needs to run on petrol until it reaches 40 degrees?

Also is a flashlube system required?

Hi Tom

Don't know anything about the multi point injection system.

I have hade the open loop system on my 2ltr Aircooled for a few years now.

You lose some power guessing 3-5% nothing major.

You don't need to run on Petrol at all. ( I haven'a had a petrol :::: for a year now)

Also is a flashlube system required. not for a flat4 you don't.

Loads of fitters haven't got a clue about older engines, glad I found Steve when I did.

Power loss is negligable

Injected WBX engines are usually set up to start on petrol until they reach a certain rpm but this can be over-ridden.

You're supposed to run on petrol once a month to lubricate and test the system

I believe injection is 'closed loop' (but Steve will tell you)

As said no Flashlube needed on WBX.

Don't listen to people who say "Oh, there's a garage round the corner that fit LPG systems" ... Gasure is the best ... accept no thin and unbearded imitations :lol:

I spoke to a local company that specialise in LPG conversions. They use BRC conversions , I've heard these are the best. They have quoted £1000 for the closed loop (multipoint injection)and £800 for open loop. They said they need to look at it to make sure the closed loop is compatible i.e. it electronic not mechanical fuel injection. To be honest it is much more convenient to take it somewhere locally. Also at least if there is a problem I don't have to drive miles and miles to sort anything should it go wrong.

Ian, a question about the 'once a month a month'. Do you know what the percentage in time you are supposed to run on petrol?

The local guy said using petrol to warm up can be over ridden but would not advice as, if I remember rightly the vaporiser would burn out.

I want done and if need be will take it up north to be done.

Gasure has an agent at VW Elite in Essex, they are trained by him and I believe carry his warranty and approval.

The advice is to run on petrol a few miles a month .... invariably because of the mileage I do (~20K miles per year) and the distance to the nearest gas station (10.7 miles) I probably do 5 or 10 miles per month.

Vapouriser burning out ? Pass, speak to Steve Shaw or VW Elite. Mine is a 2.1DJ running the original 1.9DG carb and gas system, therefore I can't knowledgeably comment on the injection system conversions.

As for 'local' installers there was a member on a few weeks ago where the local guy fitted something and was hopelessly out of their depth. Steve is THE man, he even offered to help the other company help the 80-90 member.

It's just over 500 mile round trip for me to Gasure. :( I didn't want any problems, that's the main reason for getting it done there. :D

Loads of local guys up this ways said the could do it no problems, but then I asked them how many other they had done and the answer was a big fat zero. Didn'y fancy my van being a guinea pig. Steve knows the vans inside out and what gose where.

Just think half price dubbin soon. :ok

Ok, a bit of a dilema. Do I go locally for£800 or gasure £1000 plus day off work and fuel £200 450 mile round trip?

it's probabily easier to go to gasure as they can do it same day. Elite take 2-3 days so iwould need a lift each way to drop and pick up.

£400 is a big difference though. The local place recon that it will loose 20% power. I can't see this is accurate.

indeed..
perhaps their intalations do that :idea
Gasure conversions have seamless transition, steve spends a lot of time setting it so you don't notice.

You dont need mutipoint on a wbx.. the injection system isnt sofisticated enought to warrant it.. you can go either open loop or closed loop still though.. most generally go open loop as its a little cheaper and if set up correctly, will perform virtually as well..

20% power drop.. nope.. not if set up correctly.. a little advance on the ignition goes a long way to making it run better too.. I would advise on using super plus (98/99) unleaded for the occasions you have to use petrol in that case though..
