LPG into 2.0l Aircooled

Hi

I'm thinking about converting to LPG (live in essex and Elite are only down the road) as I'm averaging 20 mpg for my van (daily drive, so it's working out to be very expensive).

I was told by a old skool VW mechanic that LPG on an Aircooled isn't good because the engine runs too hot.

Is this correct??

Could someone with an early T25 Aircooled who has made the conversion tell me if it has worked for them and any other comments/advice from fellow wedge drivers would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Pat

Hi Pat

I have a 81 a/c and have been running on LPG for three years.

I was told by a old skool VW mechanic that LPG on an Aircooled isn't good because the engine runs too hot.

Looks like Mr Old School don't know what he is on about. :rofl

Only advice you need is, if you have ANY doubts give Steve at Gasure.co.uk a ring.

Kev

This is a question which appears on here quite regularly. There seems to be some sort of urban myth perpetuated by people who don't really know what they're talking about when it comes to Lpg conversions.

There are quite a number of us on here running on Lpg without any problems. As long as it's professionally done and anually serviced you can look forward to cut price motoring for years to come.

If in doubt Steve at Gasure is your man.

no probs with Aircooled gas here. do it you know it meks sense. incidentally the biggest cause of aircooleds running too hot is using the wrong oil. they are supposed to have monograde sae30 oil which has excellent heat transfer properties but since its not freely available peeps chuck owt in.
15/40 mineral oil is about the best freely available oil.

Funny you should mention oil because I'm just going to put a posting on the technical forum about using oil for a diesel, because the missus bought ome oil for me and picked up some 15/40 mineral oil from tescos (they used to do a 20/50 oil) but it's for diesel motors.

Will it make a difference to use it or should I return?
