How does it work

Post by Flibbertigibbet »

My son's teacher told him that is is not possible to start a vechicle on gas but you must start on petrol and switch over. Harvey told his teacher that his mum always starts on gas but the teacher said that is not true.anyway I am picking Harvey up from school tomorrow night and said I will meet his teacher to show you can start on gas.......Anyway what is a simple way of telling him how it works ?

Easiest analogy is the divers breathing set, the engine when turning over (sucks) demands gas from the vaporiser and the vaporiser delivers the necessary gas, just like having a diving set on your back, take a breath and oxygen comes out,if you don't suck then nothing comes out, just as the lpg system does.
There is also a small amount of gas injected into the engine whenyou initially start up, this is to aid cold start, tis is programmed into the control switch in the front of the vehicle.

Even the more expensive sequentially injected vehicles have a gas start routine, just incase the petrol ever runs out they can be started of gas.

You need to tell this teacher that he/she is talking out of their proverbial hat.

Teacher is wrong... in seven years of LPG on the vele, I never once started on petrol (unless I'd run out of gas before, which wasnt often...)

Steve
On petrol the choke helps to en-richen the mixture, As the gas system doesn't need a choke, how does it "richen" the mixture with a cold engine?
