So eventually the duty will be the same but not for a long time. The Downing street highwayman wrote:
quote from the budget report
A.108 main fuel duty rates will increase by 2 pence per litre. On the
same date, duty on rebated oils and avgas will rise in proportion to the main fuel duty increase,
while duty on leaded petrol and on biofuels will increase by 2 pence per litre. Duty on road
fuel gases will also increase on 1 September 2009, such that current duty differentials for both
compressed natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas are maintained for the rest of 2009-10.
A.109 On 1 April 2010, and on the same date in each year to 2013, main road fuel duty will
increase by 1 penny per litre above indexation. On the same dates, rebated oils duty rates will
rise in proportion to the main fuel duty increases, and road fuel gas duty rates will rise such
that the duty differential for compressed natural gas is maintained at its current level, but the
differential for liquefied petroleum gas is reduced by 1 penny per litre each year.

Re: lpg tax
By the time that happens, both you and I will not care a fig about fuel duty, minimum period is another 50 years and what will happen if the cons get in? but hey what with the electric car coming on leaps and bounds as battery technology increases and the possibility of the hydrogen fuel cell, who know what you will be driving by then, probably some ion based nutreno stream powered gizmeawhat or alternatively we go back to the steam engine.
What does concern most of us is will fossil fuel last that long and are there any viable alternatives, theose with LPG have done their bit for the planet by reducing their co2 output tremendously, whether LPG is cheaper or not its still the best we have, but still fossil, buy a herd of pigs and condense the methane run your vehicle for nothing and never starve at christmas, power to the people

At some point in the distant future I'd consider building wood gas generator onto the back of my pickup. According to wikipedia, you can get a motor to generate 80kW on it, which is useful.
