James , new clean veg oil isnt that cheap any more , sorry to say , however used v/o is still available from the local chippy etc , but you'll need to heat it, filter and filter again and mix with diesel .
Macro use to be the cheapest place for new stuff .
Have you looked on the bio-diesel sites ?

I've looked at wvo but cant be bothered with all the messing about, can get oil from Bookers cash and carry and it works out at 79p per litre, which if that price isnt including vat works out at 90p still a litle cheaper but not much was only looking at the kits at the mo so not to worried

Veg oil is only cheap short term. Filled up with proper diesel today for 94.9 why anyone would want to destroy an engine for the sake of a few pence a litre on SVO is mad. WVO is crazy regardless of price unless you spend an forutne filtering it properly.

Are 'The Ministry' able to detect what you've been trying to burn at the roadside or MOT time like they do with the old red ? I mean in theory you're defrauding the Revenue ? Or do they just not bother ?

It's been legal to use up to 2,500 litres of veg oil to run a vehicle since July 2007.
I ran my 1.9 TD Mk 3 golf on a 60/40 percent oil to diesel mix for 2 years, kept (some)oil receipts in case I got dipped by the ministry. Wouldn't risk it with the van though, older seals and pipes are apparently corroded by the oil, others will know more here though. I had nowhere to filter old oil so I got it from cash and carry, about 65p/ litre.

I have been looking again at how much it would all work on my caddy van and found a online calculator, so the up shot is it would take approx 566 days of use to repay the cost of conveting it, i dont often own cars for any long lenght of time and the best part of 2 years i might be onto another motor by then so im just gonna hang on till summer and bung oil straight in as a 70/30 mix oil to derv i think!

This is the calculator results:

Please fill in questions below to get your payback time

What is the cost of conversion? £600.00
How many miles per year do you do? 20,000.00
How many miles per gallon do you do? 47.00
What is the cost diesel per litre? £0.98
What is the cost of vegetable oil per litre? £0.78

Below are the results from the answers you have given

Payback time in days 566
Gallons used in 1 year 425.53
Yearly cost of veg oil £1,508.89
Yearly cost of diesel £1,895.78
Giving you a yearly saving of £386.89
The cost per mile whilst running on veg oil is £0.08
The cost per mile whilst running on diesel is £0.09
This is the equivalent of how many mpg's you get 59.05
