LPG INSTALLATION AT TASSO GAS WHAT SIZE TANK

Post by woz9 »

hi Guys and gals

I am having a LPG conversion on my 1.9 1990 Hi top next friday at Tasso Gas in Hammersmith, London town. They have quoted me £1050 incl Vat and are LPGA approved.

My questions really are

1. What do ask for in terms of size of tank I want, where it is installed, was hoping to go in spare wheel well underneath as reluctant to give up space in back. If so does this mean I travel with no spare or as anyone done this and got solutions as to where to store spare.

2. Anyone know of Tasso Gas, what else do I need to ask or ensure they do on the conversion?
How many miles should I get from a spare wheek tank?

I'm completely new to all this and a bit worried I'm doing the right thing. I'm going over to Europe the week after for 2 weeks and hoping this is going to save me a fair bit of money.
Any advise by you Gas Guru's :D would be gratefully appreciated

cheers...Warren  all the gear and no idea

Hi Woz, first no comment on Tazzo, most on here prefer to have it done by Gasure but if they are LPGA approved, shouldn't be a problem. Check this forum out as Gasure now offer conversions down your way, someone will post details later, I think it's Elite. Might be booked tho and you will have to decide whether to go ahead or wait!

Size of tank - spare wheel donut is quite low capacity (46ltr ?) and tyre then has to live in the van or on the back door. 64 ltr upright Torroidal in the rear wardrobe is popular but extra 100 pounds usually, cylinder tank (of various capacitys 60-100ltr) under the rock n roll bed another option. I have cylinder in the wardrobe area. Reckon on an average of 22mpg on LPG (sometimes higher, sometimes lower). If they haven't converted one before and are using the Pierburg mixer 80040, then the engine hatch will need a small section of the rib cut away or it won't fit. Don't forget, an LPG tank can only be filled to 80% of its max capacity. In my experience, pros don't mind talking to other pros in the trade, Gasure have the specialist VW know how for this marque!
And......make a list of the countries you intend visiting, give it to Tazzo and get the adaptors.......otherwise you won't be able to fill up!

All the best!

were booked in with steve for a conversion on a 1980 2ltr Aircooled westy joker in november & going for the spare wheel tank conversion from what i remember when speaking to him on the phone the tank takes around 36ltrs 8 gallons or so. 120miles then if say you only got 15mpg fully loaded. lots of fuel stops if your touring but were never in a hurry when on holiday & in the netherlands most stations have lpg.

Warren, click the search option and type in 'Tank' (or similar) for this forum. There are lots of pics of tanks and where they are installed.

We have 80 litre (65-68 litre of gas) in our wardrobe and it's fine. Remember that tank size is total volume, not actual gas capacity which is maximum of about 85% of total volume.
