OK so you've all pummeled me into considering it -
What issues are there in getting it setup on an air cooled engine?
How is the gas heated up? I have heard of exhaust heat systems - how/do these interfere with the heat exchangers?
I have also heard of and electrical heater systems which is better
When the inevitable engine remove time comes how do you split the LPG lines? and then afterward do they require bleeding (I would suspect not but...)
I am aware that your all probably going to start telling me to take it to Gasure in Chester when I decide to go for it!
Didn't want to start a custard pie throwing session with this thread - I merely started to look into the LPG thing a little bit and then heard from a few different places on the net and me bro'in law and figured it might no be all people crack it up to be...

It don't work like that, you get converted, then your neighbour, then his Aunt in Wales, and then cousin Bertie in Norfolk, the word spreads and the gas gets harder to find. OK, get converted but keep very quiet about it. Do not encourage others, or sing its praises, snigger and laugh at the poor unfortunates filling with the unmentionable, you must swear profusely whenever filling up with LPG, how it wrecks engines and your on the fifth one in six months,,,,,get the picture?

Sometimes wish I had the Aircooled Dugcati, there are three of us around here with WBX's (that I know of) and having coolant loss problems, suspect headgaskets, etc. Reading the forums, having a water cooled often goes hand in hand with coolant worries. The Aircooled seems to be less problematic. Still waiting for the verdict on mine. If you cannot get all the answers you want here then try this free site:-

The senior members on here are professional installers and are only too happy to give DIY advice or alternative LPG convertors if Steve at Gasure is up to his neck. Just post a thread and I am sure they will answer your questions or point you to the right people for any tech help/advice. Also do a search, just type Aircooled and there are some very interesting threads and detailed discussions about converting Flat 4 VW Aircooled engines.

just had my head skimmed on my golf at a well trusted place near me was telling them im getting my westy converted to gas. the reply i got was they have had to replace the valve seats on a few of flo-gas's own vans some have done less than 20,000miles. all had gas conversions, i didnt ask what make van they use. He still reckoned it was worth getting converted just make sure it was done right & the ignition timming had to be spot on.

Does/has anyone used them and what is the general opinion of them?

was talking to a bloke who was running a renault on gas, seemed well up on the subject, he did mention some engines benifitting from the use of 'flashlube', you can find it on e bay , no suprise there then!. as a kit, has anybody used this, is it needed on a dub engine, he said it was to lube the bits that where'nt lubed by the gas, must say, it made more sence when he explained it
