CAn anyone give me an idea of what miles to the gallon i should be setting from my 1982 2.0 CU engine? Currently it's about 15, i am thinking this is well low, my local garage is having trouble setting my carbs up says there is a bit missing that can not be replaced. Any suggestions welcome! thank you

Age too (of the engine that is) can reduce MPG. If you have a series of probs (air leaks, wear, blah blah) it can sink like a stone.

Had a 2l CU. I was disappointed 'cos I only got just over 20mpg. You should be getting more than 15mpg. Have you checked timing? See wiki for advice. My advice would be to try the wiki way and then try to set timing on normal revs. (If I remember correctly wiki suggests lots of revs, I tried this way and it didn't work for me. It worked better by setting timing on just tickover - about 800 to 1200 revs). Just my experience. I don't profess to be an expert!!!!

We had one as well , devon pop top.
Fitted service kits to carbs , repaired automatic chokes and balanced.
Trip from notts to isle of sky 1261 miles, best mpg 27 , average 25 mpg
Cruised at 55 to 60 mph , lots of motorway + lots of small hilly roads on skye

Not sure if service kits are still available? Had to refit original float valves a new ones were cr@p!

Short trips around town 14-17mpg. Longer runs at less than 65mph and I see 20-24mpg. What bit of your carb is missing?
