T25 metal dashboard

Post by dai2sheds »

Hi there!
I have a 1981 (April) T25 (Aircooled) it has a metal dashboard, I have been looking on the Net and in VW mags but I have yet to see another T25 with a metal dashboard, mine cant be the only one out there. Are there any members with the same metal dashboard as myself or some idea or history of the T25 as to why they are so hard to find. dai2sheds.

They all have metal dash boards, some caravelles and Westy conversions have a padded top that comes in various colours but it is still the same metal dash board underneath.
I suspect that Volkswagen made it from metal to increase the rigidity of the front end in the event of a crash because the T3 shape means there is no traditional engine bay infront to act as a crumple zone.

LOVING the dash!

I bare metalled and clear coated my old bay dash and it looked wicked (in my opinion anyway )

are theses dashes easy enough to take out or a complete pain?

A bit of a pain to be honest but you could do all kinds of maintenance (eg heater blower) while you had it out and have a good inspection of windscreen seal etc.

There is a LOT of black at the front of the van, so I agree it doesn't look daft, because of the break up effect.

it could though if one got ...er... enthusiastic
