Mine passed when they did not work, so probably no.

As long as High Beam & Fog Light tell tales work then the others aren't important, unless they've moved the goal posts again..
Try cleaning up the contacts on the dsh board dimmer control, they get cruddy easily
What a long strange trip it's been

Cheers all - I'll try to fix tonight - probably the blue pcd ribbon as I had to remove the cover to look at the clutch fluid so hopefully it'll be straight forward.

As he said...as long as the tell tail lights for the indicators, full beam and O/S fog lamp are working you should be OK.
But as with all testers...although there is a strict regime that should be followed ie: MOT testers manual, there are still testers out there that fail these things through ignorance.
They could argue that without the instrument lights you would be unable to see the speedo at night and they would be right.
I wouldn't give them the excuse, checking the cluster power connections is a small enough job.

Have you heard anything from Vanfest BTW?

If not, drop a torch underneath the dash binnacle. He can't argue that speedo isn't lit then

dash lights not included in test. fog warn light applicable from 86 on as is rear fog lamp, indicators need visual or audible warning. main beam warn light not part of test.

Well it failed - need two rear tyres and there was a slight fuel leak. So nothing too drastic.

Thanks for all of your responses (especially CovKid - I took your advice and it worked LOL)!

'Rear fog lamp which is required to be fitted to the centre or offside of the vehicle first used on or after 1 April 1980'....ref the mot tester guide in front of me. So yes you need one and tell tail
