Portable Generator

Post by Trev Miles »

We are considering buying a portable generator. Is there a minimum power output that we should look for?? Realistically all it will be running is the fridge.

Fridges don't use much power so even the smallest 650watt generators should easily cope with lots to spare.
Things to consider:
650watt is fine for lighting/charging/fridge but put on any heaters ie: hair dryer/blow heater etc and you need something much bigger.
Noise....the cheap two stroke units can be a bit noisey and the quiet 'suitcase types from Honda/Suzuki etc very expensive.
Two stroke longevity.....lubricated by a two stroke oil/petrol total loss system, two stroke engines will wear out much quicker than the more expensive 4 stroke with 'proper' lubrication.

no generators on campsites, get a gas fridge please for the peace and quiet of everyone else or use hook up, generators are the devils toys imho

or use inverter and good leisure battery - my three way fridge only pulls 75W max on electric

Thanks for the answers boy's. We are new to this!! The fridge that is fitted has not been connected to the gas!! and we have been told that if we run it on the battery we will end up with a flat battery, do not want to be sitting there with the engine running. We have got one of those solar charging panels that is wired in but I have no idea how much/good this is at actually keeping a charged battery.

would it not be better, easier, cheaper just to connect it up to your gas?
