Different tax on heating fuel

Post by albertramsbottom »

Does this mean that if one has an eber or propex we could get a refund on the tax that we pay at the pump.

I ask becuase I have noticed that there has been a change in the rules regarding red deisel and watercraft. If you have a boat now you can pay proportionatly 60/40% propulsion/heating. The heating fuel can be charged at a lower tax rate

When I was in the job red diesel was only for use by registered commercial/fishing vessels - ordinary recreational boats were not allowed to use it. To be honest for the amount of diesel that you use with a heater normally it is not worth it unless you are fulltiming in a van and have the heating on permanently. If you have access to heating oil use it - but it will mean a separate tank. I have a separate tank but then I run my van on waste cooking oil which would carbon and clog up my Webasto.

Planning on useing enough to warrant the hassle?? you'd have to be a right "tighwad" to warrant trying to claim for 5L - 10L a year (if you use it a lot), to run an eber... In which case you wont be driving anywhere in a T25 Aircooled at 20mpg...... :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

Prob find that there is a min amount you can claim for...

Red diesel's been used as heater fuel and mobile plant fuel since at least 2nd January 1984 to my certain knowledge. Bottled propane is charged at 'Heating' tax rate of 8% ... not sure what we pay for road Autogas though :|

The comment is about watercraft in response to OP not land based utilities!
E D I T to add:
Commercial activities still enjoy fully rebated red diesel - our lords and masters in Europe have decreed that recreational activities cannot be zero rated.
