Can anyone recommend a good garage in Bristol?

Post by Ant_3000 »

Hi I've just moved to Bristol and my van needs a bit of TLC.

Can anyone recommend me a good garage in or near bristol?

I have a 1.7 diesel hightop - 1988 if that makes any difference.

Many thanks for any advice.

P.S> By TLC I think I need a new accelerator cable as the pedal is not always returning when I take my foot off the pedal and I need to pull it back with my foot (I know this is dangerous hence my search for a garage). Also - I think I might need to get a new exhaust as mine is pretty rusted and rattling and its already been welded together twice (emergency repairs that have lasted surprisingly well) - how much should I expect to pay for a new exhaust?

Thanks again.

I live just outside Bristol (Portishead) and use Clive Allen at Old Dub Shop (07811 180549); he's a good bloke and his work on our van has been excellent. His workshop is at Easton-in Gordano, but I think he also sometimes works in Redland. By coincidence, ours is also a 1.7 diesel (KY) hightop 1988 .....

Hi,

Iv have just acquired a van and recently moved to Bristol, this evening my van cut out at some traffic lights, and then again in a car park. Im going (I hope to be going away) in the van next weekend and now dont have the time I want to investigate. Does anyone have a recommendation for any garages. There is the aforementioned Clive, I have also tried to contact somewhere called the mad workshop.
I potter along at 60 remembering to fill up every 250 miles

I've used Volkswerke in Taunton, which I found through this helpful site http://www.dubdoctors.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, but have since found a good garage much nearer home.

RM Autos in Lockleaze. I've been using them for donkeys years, no problems and usually fixes or reconditions a few other bits & pieces whilst doing whatever I've put her in there for. ie rebuilt the bearings when replacing the brake drums. Great lads in there, no problem getting parts or using bits I get myself. Best of all..quick & reasonably cheap and don't create drama like some vw 'specialists' I've been to.

They're not VW specialists, but are very capable of all the work & MOT's I've needed over the years. They do all my family's cars and never had a problem. Definitely would recommend them. Haven't got their details on me as I'm at work (lol) but they're in YP.

cheers
