OK. Foundry reckon it's no problem to copy accurately with no alterations neccessary; originals were probably cast in LM4 (high magnesium) favoured by OEM's because it doesn't require heat treatment after casting. Cheapo. Downside is that the Mg oxidizes really quickly = spongy and porous before you know it!
Mine will be from LM25, heat-treated and will last! I'll try to get the core master made this week and down to the foundry on Friday; will have a first-off for approval before we get too far in.
I think that the price point of £90 is achieveable, but for a first run of 10-off or 20-off I need an indicator of demand...List below if you're interested.

"Silverbullet your idea about reproducing ref thermostat housing with foundry to copy accurately ".Would it be possible to reproduce a South african bellhousing for a five cylinder conversion thoughts also for a pug engine to VW gearbox bell housing .

it would be cheaper to buy a sa bellhousing from syncrohospital and ship it to uk, RJES has looked at this already I think you'll find, Phil seems happy with his adapter for the pug and the costs of tooling up for a special one like the RJES scooby one are massive

also classicparts may make the sa parts available as they can buy them from SA VW, but VW uk won't, but they'd want a decent order and the bellhousing may not be possible as it was not TUVd, the 108mm driveshafts are however and classic have offered to get the 108mm stub axles into stock
