Mechanics in Hull

Post by al73gt »

Hi, I am about to be the proud new owner of an '87 1.9 petrol day van, and was wondering if anyone can recomend a good mechanic to do some work on it when needed. I have been informed that over the past few years it has been serviced by mr Baxter of Brickworks, but he is a bit far away for reqular garage visits.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :rollin

Hello and welcome!!

If Mr Baxter has had it.....then keep going to him!! Believe me, what he doesn't know isn't worth knowing....and it will be WELL LOOKED AFTER!! Also useful to keep the history of repair with the garage.

If you are mechanically minded (or even if you are not you will soon be) you can do the regualr maintenance yourself, and take it to garage for complicated bits. Put the following on your xmas list

1) haynes manual
2) 2 x 13mm spanners, 1x 15mm, 17mm, 19mm spanners. Get good ones.
3) service kit - HT leads, oil filter, distributor cap, rotor arm spark plugs
4) LPG

then if your birthday is in the first 6 months...

trolley jack
axle stands

This is where I bought my van from.

As yet, I haven't had any work done there apart from the service etc. before I picked it up.

Cavan Taylor, the owner is very helpful.

I guess Revesby is the wrong side of the Humber for you, so Brickwerks might be the easier option if no one comes up with something more local.
