Obtaining parts from VW Classic Parts in Germany
Some members may not be aware that some parts listed by VW in the UK as obsolete are still in fact available from VW in Germany. Details are in the wiki under main dealers section, but that describes the process using the german language site. This is how to do it using the english version
Go to the website http://www.vw-classicparts.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Click Availability check on the right
In new window click access without prior registration
Search for part number (ie 253801252)
If the part is still on file the search will list the part you want with a price in euros and a colour coding
Green = Available
Yellow = Limited availability
Blue = Available shortly
Red = No longer available (usually part is not found on searching)
Select the quantity you require and add to cart
Then click E D I T shopping cart, then click continue
Fill in the availability request form fully including an email address
VW Classic parts will then reply via email with a price quote including shipping
You can then either reply with your credit card details (safer than debit cards imo) or ring them direct to order if your brave. I'm sure they speak sufficient English given the replies I have got from them in the past.
I bought an o/s inner sill from them which worked out the same price as a n/s sill from the UK even with shipping.

Re: Obtaining obsolete parts from Germany
I think I mentioned a while ago that we could do with a topic area especially for obsolete parts and those that can be replaced with similar parts from other makes. They tend to get lost in threads and there needs to be a way of containing them I think.

Its a good site, send a request and they get back to you with a quote. Its also possible to visit, the warehouse is near Wolfsburg, its before the town on the Berlin autobahn side.
