Safety Checks

Post by pmoorhen »

Have just bought our first T25 and were looking to get the gas, zig unit and hook up safety checked before hitting the road.

Can anyone recommend someone in the Gloucestershire area that could do this for us?

Many thanks in advance!

Hi pmoorhen,

And welcome to the club.

To be honest any motorhome/caravan service agent should be able to offer this service.

When I owned a coachbuilt motorhome I got it properly checked and "certificated". But it cost a hundred quid (in 2006)and a bit of a rip off in my opinion. Took him all of thirty minutes. Stamped a preprinted form, then ta for the money and 'laters'

But if you feel necessary for peace of mind then there's loads on internet if you Google caravan service gloucester

Or perhaps Toomanytoys might be available. Check him out. He's a regular on here, most helpful and savvy with da spanners. And getting rave reviews from others' here who have used his services.

Good luck and happy motoring

With respect.
Zig, mains and gas are all specialist and not covered by your normal mechanic.
Checking and certifying the gas for instance will require a Corgi registered technician.

Yes. I entirely agree. Should be only done by a qualified specialist if for a certificate. :ok

But how many people on here have disconnected, removed then reconnected 12v/ 240v/gas fridges etc without a corgi registered technician to hand. And then given same advise for others to try and solve problems .

For peace of mind use a specialist. Then we can all sleep safely.

But then you cannot always trust gas engineers either - once I had a gas supply laid on to a house and they forgot to tighten up the mains connection to the gas meter!
I suggest that learning about the appliances and the potential hazards is worthwhile for your own peace of mind. An inspection by a suitably knowledgeable person in your presence, who can point you in the direction of safety with your equipment, is a godsend.
