Reccomend Gunzl?

Post by Helga »

I need to replace my left hand drive 1982 westy sliding door window, and am having trouble sourcing one here in UK, but have found new double glazed units in Germany, at Gunzl's site. Now, can anybody actually recommend this chap? It is over a hundred quid, so want to know if he is good and reliable.

Also, where would I get a seal for this? His site doesn't have any listed, but the JK and VWH sites don't list pre 85 sliding door seal either - could I just get an opposite side seal (they were the same on all factory fitted models weren't they?)?

Help appreciated!

No they're not the same on an early van, the slider is smaller than the oposite window.
Is it an opening/sliding window? If not try to get a second hand one they come up on ebay quite often. You could try Northwest VW, Ian Hulleybus will have his number.
By the Way Gunzle is very well respected, I have never had any problems with him.
Rob.

Hi LHD

No they're not the same on an early van, the slider is smaller than the oposite window.

That is weird, as I have heard / read that they were both the same sized window until roughly 1985, when the slider window got smaller?

Hmnn... and it's so difficult to measure with the windows in isn't it! Bum!

Will try Northwest Vw.

Thanks! Again!

I tnink it's the other way round.
Earlier smaller, later same size as oposite window.
But I have been known to be wrong more than once in my life.

Helga did you ever sort that window from Gunzl? I fell foul of the window size business myself and now have a reimo double glazed sliding window that is surplus to requirements (mint, from german ebay). It's 108 long and the same height as the late sliding window (whatever that is)! It has a rubber with it....

Give me a shout if you're interested. It wasn't cheap, but probably cheaper than getting one sent over from the fatherland yourself :D
